Last year, Pace University welcomed Assemblywoman Yuh-Line Niou to be part of a discussion about the international student experience. The panel, moderated by President Marvin Krislov, included eight international students from all around the world, three of which were students at the Lubin School of Business.

Tandieka Johnson ’20, MS in Social Media and Mobile Marketing from Guyana, Sammy Thai ’19, BBA in Advertising and Integrated Marketing Communications from Vietnam, and Antonia Prado Nasser ’22, BBA in Business Analytics, all told their stories about what it means to be an international student in New York City and at #PaceU.

President Krisolv opened the panel by asking the students why they chose Pace as the home of their international student adventure.

“I chose Pace because I’m from a small town in Brazil, where all of my friends stayed, and I knew that I wanted more than what my small town could give me, and New York was the place for that. I knew that I wanted to study business, and right off the bat, I found that Pace had a very strong Business School in Lubin” said Antonia.

Sammy spoke to what it is like to be an international student and how that experience helped her evolve as a strong human being.

“Taking the decision of moving so far away from my family helped build my character and really find the things that make me unique. By living in New York I learned how to be quick on my feet, developed a thicker, and got a louder voice, which wouldn’t have happened if I stayed in the comforts of my own home”.

She is very thankful to Pace for all the opportunities she could take advantage of here, which she now sees as the things that set her apart.

Tandieka has a long story of studying abroad, she traveled to London and France before, and this global experience helped her see her own potential.

“I don’t have to limit myself to one thing or one place, there are no limits to what I can do”.

Assemblywoman Niou and President Krislov learned a lot about the international student experience. They took with them many ideas and initiatives for international programs at the university and the city and state level.
